Toronto, 2025-04-23<\/strong> \u2014 Linux Professional Institute (LPI) has announced its partnership with the United Nations for the upcoming Open Source Week 2025, scheduled to take place from June 16 to 20 in New York City. This collaboration underscores LPI’s commitment to promoting open-source technologies on a global scale.\u200b<\/p>\n

Open Source Week 2025 aims to facilitate global dialogue and collaboration on open source, digital public infrastructure (DPI), and the development of innovative solutions to global challenges. Since its inception in 2023, the event has captured significant international attention, reflecting strong demand for a UN-led forum on open source and digital cooperation. \u200b<\/p>\n

Linux Professional Institute is proud to co-organize the UN Tech Over Hackathon, a unique gathering of around 100\u2013150 global developers, technologists, and innovators. Organized in cooperation with private sector and civil society partners, this hackathon challenges participants to create impactful, scalable, open-source solutions to two high-priority global issues identified by UN entities. The goal is to strengthen existing tools and contribute to the Global Digital Compact, demonstrating how collaborative, open digital ecosystems can drive real-world change.<\/p>\n

In addition to this partnership, LPI has endorsed the UN Open Source Principles, a set of guidelines adopted by the UN Chief Executive Board\u2019s Digital Technology Network. These principles aim to promote collaboration and the adoption of open-source technologies within the UN and globally and align with LPI\u2019s mission. \u200b<\/p>\n

As part of its involvement, LPI will have a partner team available for meetings during the event, providing opportunities for attendees to engage with representatives and learn more about their initiatives. \u200b<\/p>\n
