Ontario, Canada, 2026-03-12<\/strong> \u2014 The official launch of the DevOps Tools Engineer 2.0 certification, new translations of Learning Materials, digital badges for certification holders, governance initiatives, expansion of global partnerships, events, and more: Linux \u00adProfessional Institute (LPI) highlights key achievements and developments from 2025 in its newly released Annual Review. The report can be downloaded as a PDF on the LPI website.<\/p>\n

One of the major milestones for LPI in 2025 was the release of the heavily revised DevOps Tools Engineer 2.0 certification. The updated version reflects a modernized exam structure, focusing on DevOps tools and skills that are highly valued in today\u2019s job market, while maintaining the open-source principles central to Linux Professional Institute.<\/p>\n

To support learners worldwide, LPI, a global nonprofit, released free Learning Materials for the updated exam on its learning platform, learning.lpi.org. LPI’s extensive translation effort continued to progress with the release of free Learning Materials in Spanish and Portuguese for the Security Essentials exam, and in Japanese and Vietnamese for the Open Source Essentials exam.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the year, Linux Professional Institute, in partnership with Credly by Pearson, introduced digital badges for certification holders. These badges can be added to email signatures, digital resumes, and social media profiles, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and X, helping professionals stand out to employers.<\/p>\n

2025 was also a significant year for governance at LPI. It elected new directors to its Board, completing a diverse group of 13 members representing different nations, cultures, and perspectives. This diversity strengthens LPI\u2019s mission: to promote the use of open source by supporting the people who work with it. This mission is global, with special efforts to reach out to regions that are underrepresented in computing.<\/p>\n

In collaboration with Open Source JobHub, Linux Professional Institute released the second edition of the Open Source Professionals Job Survey Report. Based on responses from 528 open-source professionals, the report offers insights to help hiring managers create roles that better meet the needs of the open-source community. A report based on the third survey will be released soon.<\/p>\n

The Annual Review highlights LPI\u2019s newly launched Become a Partner portal, the main gateway for organizations to apply and become official LPI Partners. It also includes updates on partnerships, Membership, volunteer participation, and events attended by Linux Professional Institute teams in 2025. Over the year, LPI supported 43 global events, including United Nations Open Source Week in New York, and helped make Software Freedom Day 2025 a success, expanding the reach of community-led open source celebrations worldwide.<\/p>\n
