SUMMARY:ODSI Launch Showcase : Digital Sovereignty in Africa
DESCRIPTION:July 30\, 2026\nVirtual event (global)\n\nLinux Professional Institute (LPI) is proud to support the ODSI Launch Showcase\, the inaugural event of the Open Digital Sovereignty Initiative (ODSI). \nODSI exists to make Africa’s open source ecosystem visible\, to itself and to the world\, and to put African voices in the room where digital policy is shaped. The Launch Showcase brings together builders\, maintainers\, and advocates from across the continent and the global community to mark that beginning. \nLPI at the ODSI Launch Showcase \nLPI will be represented by Sonia Ben Othman\, who joins the event as a speaker. Her participation reflects LPI’s ongoing commitment to supporting open source communities\, education\, and certification pathways across Africa. \nWhy Africa Matters for Open Source \nAfrica is home to one of the fastest-growing developer communities in the world\, with a young population increasingly building on and contributing to open source technologies. Open source offers African institutions\, governments\, and businesses a path toward digital sovereignty: technology that can be studied\, adapted\, and maintained locally\, without dependence on any single vendor. \nLPI supports this ecosystem through certification programs\, community initiatives such as Linux Clubs\, partnerships with local training organizations\, and participation in events across the continent. Building visibility for African open source talent\, and connecting it with global opportunities\, sits at the core of LPI’s mission to support the people who work with open source. \nWho Should Attend \nThe half-day virtual showcase welcomes IT professionals\, educators\, students\, business leaders\, government officials\, and open source enthusiasts from Africa and around the world. Attendance is free and open to the global community. \nJoin the conversation and be part of the beginning of ODSI! \n\nEvent website and registration:\n\nhttps://www.odsi.africa/launch

SUMMARY:LPI at SFSCON 2026: Exam Sessions and a Talk on Linux in Schools
DESCRIPTION:November 13-14\, 2026\nNOI Techpark\, Bolzano\, Italy\n\nLinux Professional Institute (LPI) will hold certification exam sessions at SFSCON 2026\, the South Tyrol Free Software Conference\, on November 13 and 14 at NOI Techpark in Bolzano. \nAbout SFSCON\nSFSCON reaches its 26th edition in 2026\, with Digital Sovereignty as the theme of the year. The conference runs over two days at NOI Techpark and covers tracks including Digital Sovereignty\, Engineering\, Open Hardware\, Legal\, Policy and Compliance\, Community\, Open Access\, Education\, and LLM\, alongside hands-on workshops across both days. Sessions are held in English and Italian. \nAttendance is free. Conference registration is open through the SFSCON ticket portal [https://pretix.eu/noi-digital/sfscon26/]. \nExam Sessions at SFSCON 2026\nTwo LPI exam sessions will run during the conference\, in the Auditorium (A2) at NOI Techpark. Each session seats 55 candidates\, for a total of 110 exam places across the two days. \nThe exam fee is covered by NOI Techpark for every candidate who registers\, not only for students. \nHow to Register for an Exam\nConference registration and exam registration are two separate steps. A free SFSCON ticket gets you into the conference; a seat in an exam session has to be booked separately. \nExam registration will open soon. The schedule of the two sessions and the link to book a seat will be announced on this page and through SFSCON’s own channels. Places are limited to 55 per session. \nTalk: Linux in Schools and Universities\nHow can schools and universities integrate Linux into their curriculum? Werner Fischer\, Transfer Manager at Thomas-Krenn.AG and member of the LPI Board of Directors\, will address the question in the Education track at SFSCON 2026. \nParents worldwide often face this situation: as soon as their children reach the fifth or sixth grade\, their school starts using cloud-based IT solutions from a large\, well-known commercial company. All communication with teachers is stored in the cloud of this commercial provider. \nI experienced this firsthand: After using Linux for five years\, our older son was given a heavily subsidised laptop equipped with cloud-based solutions from a large commercial company when he reached the fifth grade\, as were all students in our home country. Wanting to do something about it\, I ran for the Board of Directors of the Linux Professional Institute to support schools in integrating Linux know-how into their curriculum. \nIn this talk\, I demonstrate how schools and universities can achieve this and how their students can benefit from obtaining an international certificate that proves their Linux know-how. \nSaturday\, November 14\, 13:20\, Seminar 3\, NOI Techpark \nMore talks from the Education track are listed in the SFSCON 2026 program [https://www.sfscon.it/programs/2026/]. \nWhy Certification at SFSCON\nA conference whose theme is digital sovereignty is an unusually fitting place to sit a vendor-neutral exam. Sovereignty over your own infrastructure begins with people who understand it\, and a certification that belongs to no vendor is the cleanest proof that the understanding is real. \nThere is a practical argument too. An exam session held inside the event removes the two things that usually postpone certification indefinitely: finding a test center and finding the time. A candidate already in the building can leave Bolzano with a credential recognized worldwide. \nAbout NOI Techpark\nNOI Techpark is South Tyrol’s innovation district\, where companies\, research institutes and the university work side by side on sustainable development. Operated by the public company NOI Spa\, it sits in Bolzano on the grounds of a former aluminium factory\, with a second campus in Brunico. \nIts work is organized around four technology areas: Green\, covering energy systems\, sustainable buildings and water technologies; Food and Health; Digital\, covering IoT\, the Open Data Hub and artificial intelligence; and Automation\, covering manufacturing\, mobility and agri-automation. The park reported more than 70 laboratories and over a thousand research and development projects in its 2025 annual report. \nNOI Techpark hosts SFSCON and is covering the cost of the LPI exam sessions held during the conference. \nLinks\n\nSFSCON 2026: the official SFSCON website\nSFSCON program: the 2026 program\nConference registration: the SFSCON ticket portal\nNOI Techpark: the NOI Techpark website\nLPI certifications: the LPI certification catalog\n\nPhotos: @SFSCON\, CC BY-SA

The program runs across one week: \n\nNovember 14: the on-site conference at Hotel ONOMO in Douala\, with keynotes\, talks\, panels\, workshops and networking\nNovember 16-19: live online sessions in French and English\, open to participants anywhere\, with attendance counting toward the event certificate and CPE credits\nNovember 20-22: EyesOpenCTF 2026\, 48 hours of online competition\n\nAccess is free through the EOCON Community Pass\, and EyesOpenCTF is free to enter. \n20% Discount on LPI Certifications\nEOCON 2026 and EyesOpenCTF 2026 participants receive a 20% discount on one LPI certification exam. The discount is shared with participants by the organizers. \nFor a community built on practical skills\, it is a natural next step: a week of hands-on security work\, followed by a globally recognized\, vendor-neutral credential that proves it. \nEyesOpenCTF 2026\nLaunched as Central Africa’s first cybersecurity competition\, EyesOpenCTF is today the region’s largest open-access cybersecurity competition. From November 20 to 22\, participants compete online across more than 40 challenges in 8 disciplines: Web Security\, Binary Exploitation\, Digital Forensics\, Cryptography\, Log Analysis\, AI Security\, Reverse Engineering and OSINT. Around 500 competitors are expected\, from beginners to advanced practitioners. \nFocus and Audience\nThe 2026 program focuses on practical cybersecurity\, AI\, emerging threats\, infrastructure\, AppSec\, digital forensics\, cloud\, resilience\, talent development and the future of Africa’s digital ecosystem. EOCON expects around 200 participants on site in Douala and 1\,000 online. \nThe audience brings together cybersecurity professionals\, SOC analysts\, pentesters\, developers\, cloud and infrastructure practitioners\, students\, researchers\, executives\, employers and international technical communities. \nLPI as Media Partner\nLinux and open source run through every discipline of a modern CTF\, from exploitation and forensics to log analysis and reverse engineering. That is why EOCON and EyesOpenCTF speak directly to the LPI community\, and why LPI supports them: practical security skills\, open access\, and a strong connection between Africa and the global cybersecurity ecosystem. \nAbout EOCON\nEOCON is a bilingual\, hybrid international convention connecting cybersecurity professionals\, technology companies\, decision-makers\, students and technical communities around cybersecurity\, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. It is organized by the EyesOpen Security Association and Services ExamBoot\, under the motto “Where Africa secures the future.” \nLinks\n\nEvent website: EOCON 2026\nFree registration: EOCON 2026 registration\nProgram: the EOCON 2026 program\nLPI certifications: the LPI certification catalog
