In \u00ab\u00a0Open Source Journeys\u00a0\u00bb, Marcel hangs out and chats with people who have been captured by the spirit and promise of Linux and Open Source software. Open Source is part philosophy, part technology, and part ideology. That’s a powerful combination that sparks the imagination in different ways for different people.\u00a0Today’s\u00a0guest today is Jon \u00ab\u00a0maddog\u00a0\u00bb Hall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To anyone who moves in the world of Linux and Open Source software, the name Jon \u201cmaddog\u201d Hall is one that is going to be familiar. He is, among other things, a huge advocate for Open Source software, including Linux. He\u2019s been a programmer, a systems administrator, a teacher, product manager, marketing manager, an author, a columnist, the Chairman of the Board of the Linux Professional Institute, and, as I mentioned, he is one of the best known voices in this community. In this interview, we cover a lot of ground including Scotch whisky, computer programming, Open Source, Linux, and how he got the nickname, \u201cmaddog<\/em><\/strong>\u201d. We also talked about how he came to know a young Finnish student named Linus Torvalds, and we find out about maddog\u2019s dislike for the x86 architecture.\u00a0<\/p>\n
