Linux Professionals Celebrate Software Freedom Day: Let\u2019s Make a Difference Together<\/h3>\n

As Linux professionals, we know the power of freedom. The ability to adapt software to fit our needs, to avoid vendor lock-in, and to collaborate without restrictions is at the heart of what we do. It\u2019s what drives innovation in our careers and empowers the communities we serve.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why Software Freedom Day (SFD) matters<\/a>. It\u2019s our chance to celebrate these freedoms, spread the word about ethical technology, and show the world what Free Software can achieve. Together, we can shine a light on the importance of controlling our software, our data, and our digital future.<\/p>\n

  1. We Believe in Ethical Tech.<\/b>
    \n<\/b>Free Software isn\u2019t just about cost\u2014it\u2019s about doing what\u2019s right: empowering users, respecting privacy, and fostering collaboration.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. It\u2019s Good for Our Careers.<\/b>
    \n<\/b>Free Software skills are in high demand, and celebrating SFD creates visibility in new audiences.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. We Give Back to Our Communities.<\/b>
    \n<\/b>By sharing our expertise, we can inspire others to explore Free Software, from students discovering Linux for the first time to businesses seeking alternatives to vendor lock-in.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Freedom Needs Us.<\/b>
    \n<\/b>With a few companies dominating in AI, cloud services, and more, it\u2019s critical to defend the freedoms that let us innovate without limits. SFD is a great way to make our voices heard.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Get Involved<\/h4>\n

    1. Organize or Join an Event.<\/b>
      \n<\/b>Whether it\u2019s a Linux install fest, a workshop, or just an informal gathering, SFD is about celebrating Free Software in our own way. Big or small, every event makes a difference.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Support the Movement.<\/b>
      \n<\/b>If we can\u2019t organize, we can still help. Spread the word, team up with local groups, or get our companies to sponsor the Digital Freedom Foundation. <\/span>Every bit counts.<\/b><\/li>\n
    3. Earn PDUs While Making an Impact.<\/b>
      \n<\/b>Volunteering for SFD doesn\u2019t just feel good\u2014it counts toward maintaining our LPI certifications if you are an       LPI Member<\/a>. It\u2019s a win-win<\/strong>: helping the community while advancing our professional development.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      When? Now!<\/h4>\n

      SFD happens every third Saturday of September, the 20th in 2025. But the time to start is now<\/strong>. The sooner we organize, the bigger impact we can make together. Let\u2019s show the world what Free Software\u2014and the LPI Community\u2014stands for.
      \nJoin us in making this year\u2019s Software Freedom Day the best one yet. It\u2019s our movement. It\u2019s our freedom. Let\u2019s celebrate it together.<\/p>\n

      Software Freedom Day is an international effort to inform people about software freedom…the ability to use and change software to meet your needs instead of purchasing commercial software and using it.<\/p>\n

      Started by Matt Oquist in the early 2000s it rapidly grew into an worldwide community effort. In this video Matt talks about how he originated the idea and how he and his friends made it happen.<\/p>\n
