For almost 20 years, the Austrian Linuxwochen Eisenstadt have been presenting news and trends from the open source world. At the end of April, the Eisenstadt computer science, IT and open source community meets once again for\u00a0online lectures, news and discussions about “Free Software for all”.\u00a0On April 23rd it starts: Experts will discuss their experiences and share their knowledge from personal and practical experiences. The event will be held in German.<\/em><\/p>\n

Undoubtedly a test for all carriers of IT knowledge; and perhaps a motivational boost for all those who still want to become one.<\/p>\n

We are thrilled to offer the Linux Professional Institute Linux Essentials Track on the second day of Linuxwochen, Saturday, April 24. Join us for a workshop series, dedicated to Linux and open source beginners. LPI has recruited a number of experts to share their knowledge and personal experiences from their day-to-day work and training.<\/p>\n

Topic 1: The Linux Community and a Career in Open Source<\/strong><\/p>\n

We can use free and open source software such as Linux or Firefox without having to worry about third-party companies and usage rights. We are even allowed to explore, modify and redistribute them. But why does this work at all and why is this not only important for us users, but also for our society? Look forward to a tour through the turbulent history of Linux and Open Source with Mark Swillus, a GNU\/Linux and Free Software enthusiast for about ten years, and to suggestions on how you can become part of the community yourself. The workshop will begin at 9:30 am.<\/em><\/p>\n

Topic 2: The Linux Operating System<\/strong><\/p>\n

Harald Maa\u00dfen, IT lecturer and author of the books LPIC-1 and LPIC-2, will inform about the choices of Linux operating systems, give an understanding of computer hardware and explain where data can be stored. The computer in the network will also be a topic. If you want to participate, you can do so with a computer with any Linux distribution. The workshop will begin at 10:00 am.<\/em><\/p>\n

Topic 3: The Power of the Command Line<\/strong><\/p>\n

The command line is powerful and so is the knowledge of Michael Gisbers, Linux-Schmie.de. Michael, will show how\u00a0a Linux-based system\u00a0output of processes can be redirected to files and other processes and how to continue working with them. Participants who want to actively participate should have an installed Linux distribution ready. The workshop will begin at 10:55 am.<\/em><\/p>\n
