Jobs Initiative at the Linux Professional Institute
(Sacramento, CA, USA: May 2, 2013) The Linux Professional Institute (LPI), the world's premier Linux certification organization, announced a partnership program with oDesk® (http://www.oDesk.com), the world's largest online workplace, to promote workforce development initiatives for Linux and Open Source professionals. This partnership will connect Open Source talent through oDesk's job marketplace platform and enable LPIC candidates to display their official LPIC badges on their oDesk® profiles.
"LPI's fundamental mandate is to promote the careers of Linux and Open Source professionals. This initiative with oDesk is ideal in this regard as it demonstrates how wider industry players recognize the value of IT certification in recruiting highly-skilled personnel. We know that the jobs are out there and with partners such as oDesk we can assure potential employers of the quality of the workforce they require for their mission-critical technology needs," said Jim Lacey, president and CEO of LPI. Mr. Lacey added that when oDesk initially approached LPI their online service had thousands of contract opportunities for IT professionals skilled in Linux and Open Source technologies and that these opportunities have steadily grown in just a few short months.
oDesk's initiative with LPI allows for free registration of LPI alumni in various groups corresponding to specific certification levels — LPIC-1, LPIC-2, and LPIC-3. This enables businesses to hire IT professionals by level of LPI certification. LPI alumni who register and work on oDesk® will also benefit from a payment guarantee on hourly jobs.
“Our partnership with LPI helps certified professionals distinguish themselves on oDesk and gain access to more jobs, while helping businesses make better hiring decisions by connecting them with vetted, high-quality Linux talent,” said Matt Gniadek, oDesk’s Head of Business Development. “We’re excited to grow our partnership with LPI and bring the Open Source projects currently available on oDesk to the LPI community.”
