About the Event

Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a global celebration of Free/Libre and Open Source Software. Organised annually by the Digital Freedom Foundation, SFD gathers enthusiasts, developers, educators, and organisations to promote ethical technology and digital empowerment.

Software Freedom Day: The Beginnings

Let’s hear directly from Software Freedom Day itself, as we amplify their vision and message to inspire action worldwide.

Software Freedom Day is an international effort to inform people about software freedom…the ability to use and change software to meet your needs instead of purchasing commercial software and using it.

Started by Matt Oquist in the early 2000s it rapidly grew into an worldwide community effort. In this video Matt talks about how he originated the idea and how he and his friends made it happen.

    Massimiliano "Max" Roveri is a writer, blogger, editor and social media manager. He started writing on the internet in the late '90s and he went back to the digital media in 2009. Since 2014 he lives in Ireland and, since 2015, he has been part of the LPI Italy team.
