COSCUP x RubyConf Taiwan 2025: Reunions & Partnerships

COSCUP x RubyConf Taiwan 2025

The energy at COSCUP x RubyConf Taiwan 2025 was electric: an open source convergence that felt both expansive and intimate. Held in the heart of Taipei, this year’s joint conference drew thousands of developers, educators, and community builders from across Asia and beyond. COSCUP’s grassroots ethos met RubyConf’s global flair, creating a space where ideas flowed freely and collaborations sparked in every corner.

From the bustling BoF/Hacking Corner to the pre-conference mixer hosted by ExpressVPN, the event was designed for connection. Sessions ranged from deep technical dives to community storytelling, with tracks in Mandarin, English, and Japanese. The RubyConf Taiwan segment brought in international speakers who shared the latest in Ruby development, tooling, and ecosystem growth, reminding us how language communities can thrive across borders.

For Linux Professional Institute (LPI), COSCUP 2025 was more than a conference: it was a meeting-at-last with the founder of Open Source Hong Kong, Sammy Fung. He is also renowned as the founder of the Open Platform Society and as a member and former board member of the GNOME Foundation and the GNOME.Asia Committee.

After years of online collaboration, meeting Sammy in person was a powerful reminder of LPI’s early operations in Hong Kong. We reminisced about the foundational work of building open source awareness in the region, the challenges of translating global standards into local practice, and the joy of seeing those seeds grow into vibrant communities.

Sammy’s continued leadership and vision remain a beacon for grassroots tech movements. He is also the guy behind HKOSCon, PyConHK and other open source initiatives in Hongkong.

Another highlight was signing Omniware Soft as LPI’s first official channel partner in Taiwan. Their commitment to open source solutions, certification, and community support aligns perfectly with LPI’s mission. Omniware’s team brings not only technical expertise but a deep understanding of Taiwan’s developer landscape. Together, we’re excited to expand access to LPI certifications and create partnerships with organizations in Taiwan.

Throughout the event, we saw how COSCUP continues to evolve while staying true to its community-first values. The open-source café and the volunteer-led logistics both reflected a culture of care and creativity. It’s not just about code: it’s about people, rituals, and shared purpose.

As we packed up our booth and said goodbye to new friends and allies, one thing was clear: the open-source movement in Asia is thriving. COSCUP x RubyConf TW 2025 wasn’t just a conference, but a living story of collaboration, legacy, and renewal.

We leave Taipei with full hearts, new partnerships, and a renewed commitment to supporting open source communities across the region. Here’s to the bridges built, the stories shared, and the future we’re shaping: together!
