Toronto, 2026-09-07 — Linux Professional Institute (LPI) is pleased to participate in a limited-time free exam retake campaign initiated by its global exam partner, Pearson VUE. The offer gives eligible candidates an additional opportunity to pass their LPI certification exam at no extra cost.
From September 29 to November 17, 2026, candidates who opt in to the promotion and then schedule, purchase and complete their LPI certification exam through Pearson VUE can receive one free retake if they do not pass their initial attempt.
The promotion is intended to give IT professionals greater flexibility and help reduce the pressure of exam day as they work toward their Linux and open source certification goals.
“We’re glad to join Pearson VUE in this initiative, helping test takers advance their Linux and open source careers,” says G. Matthew Rice, Executive Director of Linux Professional Institute.
Candidates must first opt in to the promotion using the link below before scheduling their exam:

The initial exam must be scheduled, purchased and completed between September 29 and November 17, 2026 to qualify for the promotion. Candidates who do not pass their first attempt may be eligible for one free retake, which must be completed between January 4 and April 7, 2027.
This promotion is offered by Pearson VUE. Candidates with questions about the promotion, eligibility, or exam scheduling should contact Pearson VUE directly through the link below:

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to take the LPI exam for free. I truly appreciate it.
Estudando para isso. Muito bom.
Thank you so much for this opportunity.
I’ve already taken and Passed LPIC-1 Exam 101
Can I use this for LPCI-1 Exam 102? Can you explain some more?
I haven’t scheduled my second exam but would like to take advantage of this promo if possible.
I’m dealing with this exact same issue; did you get any response?
Hi T. Thomas,
As long as you register for the promo and then purchase, schedule, and write the exam in the defined window then it will work. You can find more information on the Pearson VUE page, that also contains a link to the terms and conditions they’ve defined:

Thank you so much for this opportunity.
I took the 101 exam and used the «retake» code; however, since I passed the exam, I didn’t end up needing the retake benefit. Now I am scheduling the 102 exam, but the system won’t let me use the code. I tried generating a new one, but the same code keeps arriving in my email. Is it possible to include a retake option for the 102 exam as well? Thank you.
Hi Denilson,
The free retake promotion is offered by Pearson VUE and applies to eligible candidates who do not pass their initial exam attempt. Since you passed your 101 exam, the retake benefit does not apply to that attempt and cannot be used for the 102 exam.
For further questions about using the promotion for your 102 exam, please contact Pearson VUE directly, as they manage the promotion.
Thank you,
Shamiul
