- The Disruptive Lab, Bakau, The Gambia
Linux Professional Institute (LPI) is proud to support Hacktoberfest Hack Day Banjul 2026, hosted by the Open Digital Sovereignty Initiative (ODSI) in partnership with Open Source Community Africa (OSCA) Gambia.
About the Event
Hack Day is designed for anyone curious about open source, whether you have never opened a pull request before or you are looking to go deeper. The day combines workshops, dedicated build time and prizes for meaningful contributions, including an award for the best open source AI project.
The event is the capstone of the Road to Hacktoberfest series, a run of community meetups built with OSCA Gambia to grow participants’ skills and confidence in open source contribution ahead of the main event.
Hack Day runs from 9:00 to 18:00 UTC at The Disruptive Lab, 78 Atlantic Boulevard, Bakau. Attendance is open to everyone, with registration through the event page.
LPI Support for Participants
Every Hack Day participant receives a 20% discount on one LPI certification exam, shared by the organizers on the day.
The winner of the hackathon receives a free voucher for an LPI Essentials exam, so that a day of contribution can turn into a recognized, vendor-neutral certificate.
Why LPI Supports Hack Day Banjul
A first pull request is a small act with a long reach. Open source careers rarely begin with a certification: they begin with a contribution, a community and someone willing to help. Hack Day Banjul supplies all three, and LPI exists to support the people who go on from there.
ODSI’s work on strengthening Africa’s open source ecosystem and advancing digital sovereignty across the continent is close to LPI’s own mission: promoting the use of open source by supporting the people who work with it.
