Overview
As demand for skilled IT infrastructure professionals continues to grow, vocational education plays an increasingly important role in preparing students for careers in cloud computing, servers, networking, and other technology fields.
ASO Business Computer College Fukuoka, one of Kyushu’s leading IT and business vocational colleges, combines practical, hands-on training with professional certification to prepare students for the IT industry.
As an LPI Academy Partner, the college has integrated Linux Professional Institute (LPI) certifications into its curriculum, using Linux Essentials and LPIC as milestones in a broader program of practical Linux and infrastructure education.
In 2025, ASO Business Computer College Fukuoka received the LPI Partner Award, recognizing its continued commitment to Linux education and certification. The award follows the 2024 LPI Partner Award received by the college’s Kitakyushu campus, demonstrating the broader ASO educational group’s sustained investment in Linux talent development.
For students preparing to enter the IT industry, obtaining a certification is only part of the journey. Employers also expect graduates to understand how technologies work in real-world environments and to be able to apply their knowledge in practice.
ASO Business Computer College Fukuoka therefore sought to create an educational environment where students could develop both verifiable Linux knowledge and hands-on infrastructure skills.
The college’s approach is designed around a simple principle: students should not only learn Linux, they should build with it, operate it, and experience the results of their work.
Students begin intensive Linux studies during the first semester of their second year. The Linux Essentials examination at the end of July serves as an important milestone in their learning journey.
The curriculum progresses from fundamental Linux concepts to increasingly practical infrastructure projects:
The college also provides each student with a Raspberry Pi, enabling them to work with physical hardware rather than relying exclusively on virtual environments.
This hands-on approach gives students experience with the kinds of systems and technologies they may encounter in professional IT infrastructure environments.
One of the most effective elements of the program is the opportunity for students to see the results of their work.
After building their own websites, students publish them on the internet and invite family and friends to access them from their smartphones.
For students who are new to Linux, seeing a system they built themselves actually running on the Internet can be a powerful learning experience.
Rather than learning commands in isolation, students experience the complete process of learning, building, deploying, and sharing a working system.
This connection between classroom learning and a tangible outcome helps students understand why Linux skills matter and encourages them to take greater ownership of their learning.
The college also takes a systematic approach to certification preparation.
Beginning in early July, students participate in a four-week Linux Essentials preparation program consisting of two 90-minute classes per week.
The program uses Ping-t, an online IT certification learning platform, to provide structured practice and individual learning goals.
Students are encouraged not simply to memorize answers, but to understand the reasoning behind them. Whether an answer is correct or incorrect, students review the explanations and underlying concepts to strengthen their understanding.
Instructors provide continuous guidance throughout the preparation period, helping students overcome difficulties and stay engaged until the exam.
In 2025, the college introduced three clear rules to encourage students to complete the Linux Essentials certification process:
Setting these clear expectations helped create a stronger sense of commitment among students. More students began studying independently, including during breaks between classes.
The result was a roughly 20% increase in the Linux Essentials pass rate compared with the previous year.
The program has produced measurable results.
As of March 2025, the Fukuoka and Kitakyushu campuses had produced 70 holders of LPI certifications, including LPIC and Linux Essentials.
The campuses have also received recognition from LPI for their ongoing contribution to Linux education:
The college complements its Linux certification program with a broad range of other qualifications, including the Fundamental Information Technology Engineer Examination, Applied Information Technology Engineer Examination, Cisco certifications, and Oracle certifications.
Together, these programs provide students with a broad foundation of technical knowledge and credentials as they prepare to enter the IT industry.
For ASO Business Computer College Fukuoka, certification is not the destination, it is part of a larger educational strategy.
Linux Essentials provides students with a way to demonstrate their foundational knowledge, while hands-on projects give them the opportunity to apply that knowledge to real systems.
This combination helps students develop both confidence and practical competence.
The college views Linux Essentials as an critical qualification for its students that can help demonstrate their technical foundation during the job-search process.
Linux continues to serve as a fundamental technology platform for modern IT infrastructure. Cloud-native technologies, DevOps, virtualization, containers, and other emerging technologies increasingly rely on Linux-based environments.
ASO Business Computer College Fukuoka plans to continue strengthening its Linux and IT infrastructure education while using LPI certifications as an important component of its curriculum.
Building on the LPI Partner Awards received by the Kitakyushu campus in 2024 and the Fukuoka campus in 2025, the college will continue developing job-ready IT professionals who combine practical experience with internationally recognized Linux credentials.
Through its partnership with LPI, ASO Business Computer College Fukuoka is helping the next generation of IT professionals move from learning Linux to building with Linux, and moving from the classroom to the professional world.
