Linux Essentials Version 2.0 Beta Exam

Linux Professional Institute (LPI) has completely revised the Linux Essentials certificate for the upcoming version 2.0. This certificate from LPI’s Essentials track covers knowledge required to competently use a desktop or mobile device using a Linux operating system.

Beta Exam Delivery

  • Beta exams will be available August 15 to September 15, 2026.
  • Information about the exam delivery will be shared with the registered candidates by email.
  • The price of each beta exam is $50 USD (and free for LPI Members).
  • The exams are available in the form of a computer based test through OnVUE online testing platform.
  • The language of the exam is English. OnVUE online proctors and greeters are English speakers.
  • You need an LPI ID to take the exam.
  • The time required for candidates to write the beta exam is 60 minutes for 40 items.
  • At the end of the exam candidates will be asked to fill out a survey. Only candidates who complete the survey will receive the exam results.

Beta Exam Results

Beta results will be shared with candidates approximately 2 months after the beta test period is over.

LPI beta exams are available through Pearson VUE online testing platform, OnVUE. The number of available seats is limited. By signing up you apply for one of the seats. Before the beta period starts, you will receive additional information if your application was accepted and how to take the exam. Unfortunately, we can not guarantee to accept all applications.
