Help Bring Linux Support to OnVUE

Linux Professional Institute exams are primarily delivered through Pearson VUE, the world’s largest exam delivery provider. Candidates can take LPI exams at traditional Pearson VUE testing centres or, where available, through Pearson VUE’s OnVUE online proctoring platform. Pearson VUE’s broad international presence allows LPI to deliver exams in regions that would otherwise be impossible.

Unfortunately, OnVUE currently supports only Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS. Linux is not included among its supported operating systems.

We understand the frustration (and the obvious irony) of asking someone pursuing a Linux certification to find a Windows or Mac computer in order to take an online exam. This restriction is not an LPI requirement. It applies only to online-proctored exams delivered through Pearson VUE’s OnVUE platform; candidates may continue to take LPI exams in-person at participating Pearson VUE testing centres.

 

LPI is advocating for Linux Support

LPI has requested Linux support for OnVUE since the platform’s introduction. Pearson VUE has indicated that sufficient evidence of market demand would be needed to justify developing and supporting a Linux-compatible client.

We regularly receive feedback from candidates who cannot, or do not wish to, use Windows or macOS to take their Linux certification exams. By collecting this feedback in one place, we can demonstrate that these concerns are shared by a meaningful number of Linux users around the world.

 

What LPI is doing in the meantime

LPI is working to support academic partners with additional facilities to provide exams on their own premises. Our goal is to ensure that Linux users have a practical way to earn our certifications without first needing access to a competing operating system.
