LPI Welcomes Thomas-Krenn.AG as Platinum Solution Provider

Hardware manufacturer’s new Linux user group “TKlug” drives strategic development of open source-based technology.

Freyung (GER) and Toronto (CAN), 03-14-2024. Thomas-Krenn.AG, one of the largest manufacturers of individual server and storage systems in Germany, can now call itself a Platinum-Level Solution Provider of the Linux Professional Institute (LPI). The partnership is not usually awarded to hardware providers; the reason for the exception is Thomas-Krenn’s Linux User Group.

The vendor-neutral LPI has been offering independent Linux certifications since 1999, in numerous countries and languages – including in Germany and with Thomas-Krenn as a long-standing partner. The major role played by Linux at the company for some time is demonstrated not only by the aforementioned user group: In addition, many of the company’s technicians are already LPI-certified. In addition, with its comprehensive Proxmox and OPNsense series the company also offers a successful open-source portfolio for several hardware systems, which is to be strategically developed and expanded in the future.

With the platinum partnership, Thomas-Krenn.AG now can emphasize the importance of open source and free knowledge to both its customers and its own team. For the company, the major advantages of a platinum partnership lie in emphasizing the importance of open source and free knowledge to both customers and future employees. The server and storage provider also wants to make a general statement about open-source technology.

“The open-source community is an integral part of our corporate DNA. Our path to success was largely paved by the first systems based on Debian and Ubuntu, together with committed and competent open-source providers and system house partners,” explains Christoph Maier, CEO of Thomas-Krenn.AG. “The Linux community will continue to be an indispensable and central component of our strategy and our success in the future.”

The LPI originally launched the “Approved Solution Provider Program” for companies that offer system solutions and services based on Linux and open-source software. The initiative has set itself the major goal of promoting the visibility, business growth, and international expansion of participating partners by using LPI certification as proof of the quality of their employees’ skills.

“Linux has played an important role at Thomas-Krenn.AG for a long time. Many of the company’s technicians are already LPI-certified and we very much welcome the establishment of the new in-house Linux user group. Matthew Rice, Executive Director of the Linux Professional Institute.
