Technology evolves. So does your job. To stay current, LPI updates its certification exams every three years. In 2018, LPIC-1 will be updated to version 5.0. This affects the exams 101 and 102.
The new exams were updated to cover all relevant aspects of systemd. The networking objectives were completely redesigned and now focus on iproute2 and NetworkManager instead of the legacy net-tools. A new topic covers using Linux in virtual machines and in the cloud. Amongst other changes, SQL and file system quotas are no longer part of the LPIC-1 exams.

LPIC-1 version 5.0 will be release in late summer 2018. After the release of version 5.0, version 4.0 will be available for a grace period of six months.
