Linux Professional Institute Affiliate for Western Balkans Region Adds New Albania Sub-Affiliate

(Thessaloniki, Greece - Tirana, Albania: March 4, 2014) The Linux Professional Institute (LPI), the world's premier Linux certification organization, announced that its Master Affiliate for the Western Balkans Region LPI-Greece ( recently appointed Open Labs ( as the LPI Sub-Affiliate Albania. Open Labs, is a non-profit association that currently organizes most of the Free Software / Open Source Software activity in Albania. They provide seminars, courses and learning workshops on GNU/Linux and open hardware technologies.

“We welcome Open Labs as a new affiliate in the LPI community. We look forward to supporting them in their efforts to expand the Linux and Open Source communities in Albania,” said Jim Lacey, president and CEO of LPI.

At Open Labs we have the vision of building a FLOSS ecosystem based on the principles of the international Free Libre Open Source Communities. Konstantinos Boukouvalas, operations manager of LPI-Greece had the following comment on the new partnership: "Redon came in contact with me at openSUSE Conference last July. From the very first word we exchanged we had very good chemistry and by September it was my turn to visit Albania, being the first from greek Free Software communities to make such trip. Together with GREEKLUG VP Konstantinos Mousafiris we witnessed the integrity of Open Labs facilities and the thriving community members of it. I believe that GNU/Linux and Linux professionalism found its home in Albania”
