Success stories

LPI is the global certification standard and career support organization for open source professionals. With more than 500,000 exams delivered, it's the world’s first and largest vendor-neutral Linux and open source certification body. LPI has certified professionals in 181 countries, delivers exams in 9 languages, and has over 400 training partners.

“It took me approximately a year to complete all three exams (LPIC-1 [101 and 102] and Linux Essentials) but within a week of getting my first Linux certification, I got a job as a Support Technician, at Silicon Mechanics – where I currently work, but now as a Senior Support Technician.” Read Adam's Full Story Here

-- Adam, Washington, Senior Support Technician, LPIC-1

“Linux users are known to be very committed, going beyond just a job. And those who participate in community projects additionally gain valuable soft skills and management experience. My own contributions led me through the stages LPI alumni and LPI staff member to a seat in LPI's Board of Directors. Working in the LPI team and communicating with interested parties is much fun, and I definitely grew with the tasks. Actually, my hobbyhorse silently became a second career path. So, voluntary work like this can be very rewarding. I'm sure personnel managers will appreciate it, too.”

--Torsten Scheck, Germany, Software Engineer, LPIC-1

“I'm a software developer who has spent the majority of his career writing programs for Windows systems. I gained my LPI Level 1 certification through self-study, and found that working through the vsyllabus was a superb way for me to really get to know the nuts and bolts of GNU/Linux. I would recommend the LPI certification to any developer who wants get up to speed quickly on GNU/Linux systems.”

-Dafydd Walters, United Kingdom, Sun Certified Java Developer and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer

“...When I first wanted to certify my Linux skills I chose LPIC because of its vendor-neutrality. I felt that the Exam Objectives were very well thought out and the exams were very challenging in a practical sense....”

--Rahim Virani, Canada, Dipl. CSP, LPIC-1, LPIC-2, Comptia A+

“... Working in a crowded IT market, I needed a tool to differentiate myself and make me more reliable to our customers who customarily required certifications in other operating systems. In addition, every time it became more difficult (for them) to find professionals with good Linux knowledge...."

--Pablo Pessagno, Argentina, LPIC-1

Welcome to the LPI Community

If you’re new to open source or been around like many of us here since the beginning, LPI would like to welcome you to our community.

We very much consider ourselves the open source ethos in a certification program. A community that traces its history to the very beginning of Linux.

Established as an international non-profit organization in October 1999 by the Linux community, LPI has since grown to be a global network of IT Professionals.

Our purpose? Enabling economic and creative opportunities for everybody by making open source knowledge and skills certification universally accessible.

There’s a cultural shift challenging the concept of 'business as usual'. LPI and the open source movement positively plays into this, challenging the status quo in proprietary corporate ownership of code; as an alternative means of getting an education and skills recognition; in helping developing nations and their citizens succeed; and in knocking down barriers of entry for people and businesses. In short, leveling the economic playing field and providing access for all.

LPI is about the ideal of enabling economic and creative opportunities for everybody through open source adoption, knowledge, and skills certification.

Transferring economic ownership out of the hands of the few into the hands of the many. And in doing so, liberating people, and improving the quality of life for populations around the world.

Why not involve yourself in some of the social channels and information presented here? Take your shoes off. Get to know new people. Add to the conversation. But most of all enjoy yourself.

The future’s open.

Get involved. Join the LPI community.

The University of Central Lancashire, Cyprus (short UCLan Cyprus), is located in Pyla, Larnaka. The University is an Academic Partner (LPI AAP) of LPI and students at this University already have trainings to get the LPI Linux Essentials and the LPIC-1 certifications. During their visit, both executives met with the UCLan Cyprus Rector, Dr Melinda Tan, and the Head of the School of Sciences, Dr Irene Polycarpou, as well as with Academics in the Computing Department. Such areas include strengthening the existing UCLan Cyprus Computing course with LPI learning materials; integrating into the UCLan Cyprus Computing course Linux and open source curriculum; aligning specific UCLan Cyprus Computing modules with LPI Linux Essentials exams; offering Linux courses at the UCLan Cyprus Cisco Networking academy; and offering LPI 102 and 102 exams for LPIC-1, LPI LPIC-2 and LPIC-3 exams. The three sides have also discussed the possibility for the development of a Linux and open source lab at the UCLan Cyprus campus with the support of LPI and GTP Computrain Ltd. All parties look forward to a fruitful collaboration.
